How to Use Start-School-Ready.com

Illustration of a winding, curvy black road with dashed white centerlines.

There’s no single route to School Readiness - and no pressure to follow a straight line here.

Think of this website as a walking journey.

Along the path, you’ll find some free guides, and real-life stories that you can dip into whenever they feel relevant to you and your child.

Pick what fits. Leave what doesn’t.

You can explore in any order, at your own pace - whether you’re feeling calm and curious or just trying to get through breakfast.

For now, take your time. There’s no rush - just real tools, real stories, and real help for real families.

Who made this beautifully dodgy animation?

That would be Susie.
Yes, It’s homemade. Yes, it wobbles. But hopefully you can see past that and spot people (that’s you!) walking the path, learning as they go.

And just up ahead? A bus stop, with a bus designed to carry parents that little bit further - with more comfort, support, and less uphill and downhill struggle.

So go ahead - have a chuckle, but keep going. You’re going somewhere good.

Who do we mean by ‘Parents’?

Throughout our website, we’ve used the word parents as a simple, direct way to refer to anyone caring for a child - including guardians, caregivers, and extended family members. We absolutely don’t mean to exclude anyone by using this shorthand. We’ve simply chosen it to keep things readable and concise, especially knowing how little time you have to spare.

Who we mean by ‘educators’?

When we say educators, we’re including everyone involved in helping children learn and grow - whether you're a teacher, teaching assistant, early years’ practitioner, nursery staff member, home educator, or anyone else supporting children’s development day to day. We know that education happens in many forms and settings, and we value the vital role each of you plays.

Things to remember:

Start-School-Ready isn’t about rushing children into school life before they’re ready.

We bridge the gap between Nursery and Reception.

We are not pushing children ahead.

We believe deeply in the importance of play, exploration, and all the magic of the nursery years.
