Wish-You-Were-School-Ready
The unfiltered guide for Educators.
You’ve heard it. You’ve probably been asked to prepare children for it. But let’s be honest - “School Readiness” often feels like code for “fast-track this child into Reception mode before the paint dries.”
Let’s clear the fog…
For Educators:
What Start-School-Ready Really Stands For
Start-School-Ready isn’t about rushing children, skipping stages, or turning our nurseries into mini Year 1 classrooms. We are Early Years trained, and we stand firmly behind play, exploration, and all the beautifully messy learning that happens in the nursery years.
What we’re here to do is bridge the gap. Not to push, but to support. Not to rush, but to prepare — properly.
Too often, families are told to “get ready” for school, but nobody shows them what that actually looks like beyond buying a uniform. We’re here to demystify Reception so parents can support their children in everyday life, in ways that match their child’s stage — not push them to the next one.
We want to help you give families clear, practical guidance that celebrates childhood while giving children the best possible start. This is about strengthening the transition, not speeding it up.
We’re on your team. Always.

What we believe really matters for children in those first weeks of school
✓ Separating from loved ones at the door - no matter how much they’d rather cling to legs like a koala.
✓ Regulating emotions without a meltdown under the table.
✓ Understanding what’s going on when everything’s new, loud, and a bit bananas.
✓ Asking for help when there is confusion, without gnawing on jumper sleeves.
✓ Handling frustration when their tower is knocked over, when their name's misread, or when their idea isn’t picked.
We’ve built resources, stories, and courses around these real-life moments for you - the people doing the work in Early Years classrooms.
We know you’re already juggling observations, nappies, key person catch-ups, snack duties, and the mystery of “why is everything sticky again?”
Our job?
To give you tools and insights that actually help. No fluff. No guilt. No impossible standards.

Who we mean by ‘educators’?
When we say educators, we’re including everyone involved in helping children learn and grow - whether you're a teacher, teaching assistant, early years’ practitioner, nursery staff member, home educator, or anyone else supporting children’s development day to day. We know that education happens in many forms and settings, and we value the vital role each of you plays.
